How can a fear of haunted houses be faced?

My friend has a really weird fear of haunted houses. He’s 6’5", but he claims to cry like a baby in the face of fear. I asked him to come to a haunted house with me and my friends, and he said no.

I really want him to come, but he says that his anxiety prevents it. How can I convince him to come with us?

*The haunted houses around here are NOT scary in the least bit.

Any opinions will help. Thanks in advance!

What worked for a friend of mine was actually working in one for a night as a volunteer for one of the charity ones. After that my friend was never scared of them again!

Why are movies and haunted houses not as scary when your with a guy?

I usually freak out when i go to haunted houses or watch scary movies. But the last couple of times ive gone with a guy that i sort of have a "thing" with, and it wasnt as scary. I didn’t really freak out at all. Is it because if you have a guy with you, you feel more protected? Im just curious.

no, well part of it but it’s like u have to feel brave, or u get the fuzzy feeling and not even concentrated on the movie.

I am having a party and everyone likes to tell ghost stories so I juust need some. And Im interested in what you have to say.

When I was living in Italy, I had this dream one night about this man coming to me in my dream and grasping my hand and we traveled all over Italy. He showed me all of these different places and we’d visit them as if we were revisiting places we had been before. At the end of the dream he kissed me and something made me wake up. I woke up just in time to see the same man leaving my room through the wall opposite my door. Definately an unusual experience.

How are clocks used as motifs in folklore and ghost stories? (eg, clocks stopping when a person dies, haunted grandfather cocks, etc…)

Interesting query. Clocks striking 13, witching hour, 3 am the best time to see ghosts, all spirits must vanish before dawn or suffer something horrible. Food for thought.

I want to know what the name of the phobia of haunted houses is. And I don’t mean like, oh there’s a ghost in my house, so that means its haunted. I mean the Haunted Houses that are set up for "fun" at Hallowe’en and carnivals and stuff.

Is there a phobia name for it? Cause my best friend has it, but we wanted to know the real term.

Any google search only seems to reveal the "ghost lives in house" type of haunted houses. Help!

We can as well invent a new name and, once it becomes popular, such newly invented word may be, later on, included in the future dictionaries. For instance, we can term it as as "Phohauhou." I mean the three first letters from "phobia of haunted house". Or you may also likewise select a name of your own choice like this.

Do you know of any good occult shops in Northern NY?

I can not find a single magic/occult shop in my area. The closest big city is Syracuse. Does anyone know of any good Occult/Magic shops in the Northern New york Area?

My knowledge of New York geography is a little rusty, so all of these may be a bit of a trek for you. But I hope this list will be helpful. Also, if going to a physical store becomes too much of a chore, you could also explore online shops.

A question about one of the "dramatic effects" in slasher films…?

Whose idea was it really to have an unlucky victim’s extremities or head, if sliced through by a blade, remain in place for 3 seconds before falling off? I’m awfully curious about it… (The laser scene in Resident Evil is a good example of this and the opening scene of Cube)

That is just geninuely how it would happen in real life, like if you get shot in the head, you don’t fall down right away, you body reacts and you basically plop. It is a real reaction of the body, if someone were to (unfortunately) get their head chopped off.
