In this world of the walking dead, it is sometimes more shocking to run across someone who is alive amid all of this horror and chaos. It was very much that way when I was scrambling through some old buildings in the middle of the city and just ran across this sweet-looking kid wearing one of those zombie t-shirts you would see the kids wearing back in the day. Those days are long gone, though. Now there’s just survival, and it was probably not the wisest move to team up with someone when I could barely take care of myself.

Trusting people in general hasn’t been a great idea since the zombies rose up and started infecting people. Folks would hide bite wounds until they got really sick and turned. There were people who would rob you blind of everything you had instead of foraging for their own stuff. There were even cannibals in the city who had resorted to eating fresh zombies, and even live people if they could catch them. I would have understood better if the kid in the zombie t-shirts had just run away, but he amazed me by wanting to team up.

I was almost out of everything in my sack. I had a sheaf of old crackers that were hardly chewable and a couple of mouthfuls of bleached water in one of my bottles. The boy in the zombie t-shirts and I found a quiet place away from the roads and shared what I had. The boy immediately proved me right for picking him up by taking me to a shattered pipe that he had found that is attached directly to a well system. It had been so long since I had anything but stale, chlorinated water that I nearly cried when I tasted how cool and sweet it was. The boy’s face lit up when I asked him if he knew any other secret placed. He did in fact know of a place untouched by scavengers. It was swarmed with zombies, but he could get us there safely. I thought I had won the lottery by finding this kid.

Because of how slow it takes to move around in parts of the city that are literally crawling with undead, it took us a very impatient two days to reach the place the kid with the zombie t-shirts was taking me to. We still had water, but in my weakened condition I was constantly exhausted. We rounded a corner, and there it was. A business intersection with two untouched gas stations and a pharmacy. You could see that all three were untouched, but there were zombies everywhere and in all directions. Getting to any of them in the open would be suicide, but the kid said he knew a way. I trusted him.

He told me to run, and he took off like a streak before I really knew what was happening. I bolted after him as quick as I could, but he outdistanced me. I was about fifty feet behind and falling back even farther when he started knocking over trash cans and yelling. I screamed for him to shut up because every zombie was turning towards us. It was an instant before I was cut off and I had to scramble into an old car. I could see the boy in the zombie t-shirts look my in the eye from the safety of the alley and shrug. He would almost certainly be able to get into an be safe in one of those stores. He could close the security gate and be safe and fed all winter with an army of undead protecting him from the real monsters out there. The zombies would be busy with me, after all, when they finish cracking this car open and tearing me out of it.

I’ve got a lot of people who were inspired by movies to kill, and now I need to know the crimes that inspired the movies.

I’d really like to know in particular where the idea for SAW came from and the more gruesome movies. However, if you know of one (ie. The Amityville Horror etc) that was not as gruesome but has a real backstory, please share.

So far I’ve got Natural Born Killers, The Silence of the Lambs and Dracula.

I think the one that comes to my mind first is ‘In Cold Blood’. There have been a couple of movies based on the actual events, as well as the book written by Truman Capote.

There has also been a movie, which won an Oscar in 2006, about Capote doing the research for writing the book .

"Plot summary for In Cold Blood (1967)

Two young men are ineffectual individually, but when together become violent criminals. They break into a wealthy farmer’s home only to find that there is nearly no money at the home and murder the entire family to avoid identification. The first part of the film details the search for them, the second, their trial and execution. Taken from the actual events chronicled by Truman Capote in his book. Written by John Vogel {jlvogel@comcast.net}

Truman Capote wrote the ‘non-fiction novel’ from which the film is drawn, using the novelist’s craft to render reality. The reality was that at two a.m. on November 15, 1959 in the rural town of Holcomb, Kansas, the four members of the Clutter family were roused from their sleep, bound and gagged, and then brutally murdered by two unknown assailants. After the latters’ capture, sentencing and imprisonment prior to execution, Capote researched the case thoroughly, spent weeks talking with the prisoners, Perry Smith and Richard Hickock, jurors, police, friends and neighbors, trying to unearth why such a senseless act was committed, and what society’s response might have been.

Before there were movies people were still able to find way to entertain themselves. They read books, watched plays, or listened to music to get that enjoyment. Out of the many different emotions the human being can express from enjoying one or any of these activities the one that is most difficult and most interesting for most to feel is being afraid.

This is where horror movies come into play. With horror movies growing more popular than ever before, and changing as the years go by, the genre continues to also be the one that people cannot get enough of. It also seems to be the one genre that can be enjoyed at any season, whether it be Halloween or Christmas Eve. The need for wanting to be scared shows all over the internet especially like online video services where horror films are in abundance.

Above all the emotions that a human being can express; happy, angry, excited, the one that is the most difficult to evoke has to be fear. Forgetting about the fact that feeling fear is not an emotion most of us like to be in all the time it tends to be the one powerful emotion. This could be a reason why people are so interested in horror movies, since it can really be an interesting and thrilling experience to feel scared.

Fear is also one of the most difficult of emotions to get out of an audience. Getting someone to be afraid through a film has been attempted many times, and the slew of “bad” horror films is proof of this. The horror genre is probably the one most saturated in the market for the simple fact that it is in demand and they are so easy to make without the big studio budget. There are lots of horror films out there that just miss completely and end up being a complete waste of time, but when you do find a good horror movie it is really worth it.

Nightmare On Elm Street, Friday the 13th, are two films that have revolutionized the horror genre and from them rose two of the most iconic figured in all of horror, Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees. It’s because of these two characters that have made them multi-million dollar franchises.

The ever evolving horror genre will continue to thrill audiences with their creative story plots and tons of blood formula. The fear factor that audiences crave will continue to be satisfied by the horror genre and as the industry keeps growing, who know what audiences can expect next when its time to stretch the envelope even further.

Friday the 13th was better then any of the originals, and covered the events of 1-4 (more like 1-3).
Now there is a sequel in the works.

I wonder if their gonna mess it all up with a sequel.

I really couldn’t care less about horror film sequels. No matter how many sequels or ideas they come up with, it’s always terrible & always for money. Horror writers don’t think thoroughly. Writing a sequel has to be very well planned & careful. That’s why many great movies usually don’t have sequels. It always has to be a better story line than the first, that should be the very first rule for planning a sequel screenplay. It’s very risky. That’s why I hate horror films/ horror screenplay writers.

The only brilliant scary movie I’ve ever come across to was The Exorcist. The thought that demons are truly real makes the movie horrifying.

Another one is Silence of the Lambs, although it falls in the Mystery/Drama genre. No man with masks, or guns. The spine chilling Hannibal Lector is scary enough. A mere doctor, who doesn’t just kill people, he EATS them. These films, are worth being called true horror films.

Okay so you know how when kids are little (I’m 15) they watch blues clues, and disney channel, nickelodeon and all that shit. Well what if they were just raised off of horror movies? What would happen and how would their life be when they are older? Will watching horror movies at a young age do any damage?

There’s potential for a bad turn if the parents are not responsible, of course, but I think that being raised on horror movies would make the child stronger. They’d be less afraid if they’ve seen the worst of the worse. On the opposite end, depending on the runt, it could scar them and cause excessive fears since they’ve seen so many horror films.

In closing, I say it depends from child to child.

The remake of Dawn of the Dead was well done too.
Hostel 1 and 2 are creepy as well.

for a classic zombie gore film nothing is better than "dead alive". it’s gorey and hilarious.

and also, the evil dead series is great
