I heard somewhere that more and more people, especially youth, are joining the occult and doing drugs as a part of rituals. Is this true or does the occult exist at all today aside from a small minority?
Yes, more and more people are breaking free of the religious dogma of Judeo-Christian beliefs and finding more interest in the Occult. I suspect this is because certain religions do not provide all the answers to certain questions. That’s why I drifted away from Christianity, toward more occult studies. Christianity no longer cut it for me.
I do not do drugs as part of rituals, and I do not know anyone else who does. (Unless you count drinking wine in honor of the memory of the dead at a Day of the Dead ritual. I’ve done that.) The people in the circles I run in would never encourage young people to do drugs.
People seem to define ‘the occult’ as something evil. It is not. Occult simply refers to the unknown.

The Occult does exist today and is not a minority Path.
There is no drugs that are offered to youth. Please do not accept that as truth. It is an Oath not to teach a person under adult age (from the outside, meaning a person interested in the occult but not apart of any path within it). this oath is used by many, but obviously not all.
Drugs, while many can not control what adults do in the privacy of their own home, are Never given to children (at least by any adult that has a brain).
If I find any person within the occult paths that has done so, I would personally drag their *** down to the police myself.
There are many false rumors going around about the Occult.. I ask that you have an open mind about them and not take them for face value.
Edit: when i say it is not a minortiy path, what i mean is that there are many many people within the Occult paths, its just that many do not like to share this with the public.

Yes, it is true. Regrettably. Of course, Occult is a very vague word, so I will assume you mean "Mysterious religions."
I say regrettably, as most of the kids signing up will undoubtedly tarnish the mysteries some more, and many more will eventually find out it is profitable to go back to Christianity and use their past as a way to suck gullible people out of money. Of course, there are a few gems; but the gems would be an asset anywhere they choose to be.
Also, the youngsters aren’t doing the ritual drugs, unless they are doing it alone. Most occultists are not stupid; corrupting a minor [Either by letting them into a ritual setting without parental permission {Which is not a good idea, under US child laws}, or by giving them drugs] is illegal.
And yes, we are a minority. We get bigger if you include all the groups with differing views, practices, and etc, but I would rather not be grouped in with the Wiccans that are prevalent in the States.
@ above answers-
Suni- We’re still a minority. A larger minority than we realize, but a minority nonetheless.
Phoenix- I would never encourage, or discourage, a young person from drug use. I would warn them of the dangers, but really no matter what is said to them is of no import; they will do as they Will. Also, I occasionally use a hallucinogen, or other mind-expanding substance for ritual purposes. Though, thus far I have managed to avoid a dependency.

Thelemite. Occultist.
I think the last two people gave excellent answers. However I would like to add that interest in the "occult", which is a broad term that covers a multitude of arcane or secret knowledge, and drug use are two completely different things. There are millions of people on this planet who are involved in some sort of occult practice, but do not use illegal drugs. And there are millions of people who use drugs but do not engage in occult activities. To lump the two behaviors together would be a big mistake.
As a Gnostic/Thelemite, and long time ritualist and practitioner of esoteric arts, I have attended some ceremonies where certain potions were used as a sacrament, usually in Native American and South American cultures. And no doubt, there are some who use substances in the U.S.A., which should be a right protected under freedom of religion.
In the U.S. nobody has a right to tell another person what to believe and what religion they can and cannot practice. But to assume that all people who study the Mysteries and/or practice the ancient arts take drugs, is using false logic and narrow minded thinking.
I believe that interest in the occult is growing. The word "occult" means "secret". For 2000 years a lot of secrets have been kept from mankind by oppressive, controlling, religious authorities. Millions of people have died protecting the Mysteries and keeping them alive through the ages. When the largest library in the world at Alexandria was burned to the ground we lost an immeasurable amount of knowledge. The Mysteries were corrupted by the religious institutions and we entered into a Dark Age. With the explosion of science and technology, many think thought that the dark age was over. However, many more of us feel that as long as we allow ourselves to be enslaved by others, whether it be a church, government or other institution, we are still in the dark. The study of the occult can open up the mind to possibilities that were once hidden. Once you free yourself from your mental prison you realize that you are a spirit having a human experience and you learn to appreciate that experience a lot more. This is the beginning of the process of enlightenment. Some people use meditation, some use ritual, and some use drugs. Personally, I don’t judge those who use drugs for ritual or religious purposes. We all forge our own spiritual path. But as a mother, I would be remiss if I didn’t sit down and talk with my kids honestly about drugs…. and sex, sexual predators, and everything else that might get them into trouble.
Too many young people are getting involved with drugs because they don’t have parents who are willing to talk honestly with their kids. Too many kids are lied to or just flat out ignored. They are left to stumble along and step on any of the land mines out there including cults, drugs and sexual predators. This has nothing to do with the Mysteries. When I was young, we were told that marijuana makes you violent and insane. Imagine my surprise when I found out the truth. I caught them in one lie so I why should I believe anything else the school tried to indoctrinate me with?
Bill Hicks once said the government won’t legalize marijuana because it has the effect of waking up certain parts of the brain and making people see how much they are being f___ed by the government. I think you can extend that to all oppressive institutions including the education system and organized religion. We are being deceived by our governments, our schools and churches. Our economy is in the toilet because of greed and we are being f____ed daily by those that claim to be taking care of us. With the corporate scandals, church child molestation scandals and failures in the education system the truth is coming to the forefront. Couple that with so many old and ancient documents being unearthed and revealed we have the makings of a new renaissance.
It is refreshing to see so many young people waking up and exploring new ideas. There is hope as a new generation opens its eyes and rejects the lies.
