The best salons … The best salons were Jamaican and Albanian and I believe I had the best experiences with them b/c of their technique not products. Both Jamaican and Albanians don’t cut your hair unless necessary, will only roller set your hair and will refuse to blow dry or flat iron it. And they put very few products in my hair and use wide tooth combs where as Dominicans and African Americans love using you as a lab rat and get scissor, heat, and product happy.

@juyly9 I totally … @juyly9 I totally understand what you’re saying about brazilian/latino hairstylists, they are indeed great, but sometimes they do in fact use a little too much heat. She doesn’t really use heat that much on her hair, so I suppose that if she could find someone to coincide with her reegimen, she would try it out. Good job

I had a ceasar by the time my hair was finished. So that was that never again.

You have it right … You have it right on the mark. If your hair is natural more then likely a stylist will not want to be bothered because it is too much of a hassle. It is few and far that any would but, I think that you are doing a fabulous job so stick with what you know and you know your own hair. I stopped going to stylists too because they always get scissor happy and I can dust my hair myself. My hair is more healthy now then it has been in a very long time since I have been properly taking care of it.

I am so glad i … I am so glad i found a wonderful, African American hair dresser, who actually believes in using natural products, minimal heat and minimal styling products. She doesn’t even use hair spray! This wonderful lady actually knows what a trim is, never makes me wait more than ten minutes to get in her chair, and gets me out in a little over an hour. Her clients have long, healthy, natural hair and I LOVE her! I take care of my own most of the time and see her about every 3 months or so. Amazing!

Yeah, I hate … Yeah, I hate visiting hair salons cuz you have to devote too much time to the whole process. I know that more exclusive salons (where they deal with one client at a time) may be a bit pricey. Oh yeah and I heard about the dominican salons and the heat they use in their styling methods. That’s probably why I haven’t personally visited one yet.

I can defintely … I can defintely relate. I haven’t been to a hair salon in years and consequently feel unsure about going to one again because I’ve had such bad experiences in the past. Though truthfully, if I could find a competent hairstylist to give me a proper haircut I would shell out the money.

I’ve been to … I’ve been to stylists who cut off too much for a “trim”. And stylists who put in too many styling products. It felt like Vaseline was in my hair. I’ve also had long waits for stylists to get started on my head. And too much heat at a Dominican salon. It felt like my scalp was going to melt or burn with the heat from the blow dryer. Like you, I’ve been doing my own hair.

i <3 the dominican … i <3 the dominican salons also but i agree w/ the heat thing. so i go every 3-5 weeks. its sad that AA salons do not know how to style thick natural hair like the dominicans. i dont think i’ve ever really been as satisfied as i am right now with them.

Thanks for sharing … Thanks for sharing your experience. I think we all can relate. Especially with the hair salons that make you wait and then give you attitude. I absolutely refuse to let anyone without tact touch my hair. Just like I dont like to eat food prepared by angry or dissatisfied people. I feel they transfer their bad aura. Have you ever seen “Like Water For Chocolate”? LOL.
