If you could change one thing about horror stories, like books and movies, what would you change?

Jul-27-2010

I’m Thinking of writing a book. A horror book, if you couldn’t tell. And I need some background information about what the public wants. So if you could help me out I’d much appreciate it, and if an answer is good enough, it might even get a mention in the story.

I’m laughing at the first couple of answers. Clearly, these are people unfamiliar with the true horror genre (watch some Vincent Price).

A lot of the classics really do a great job of giving you the rules of certain monsters and story lines. When you know the rules is when you can bend them. You should do your research and find Horror Stories like the one you want to write and commit to reading/watching and analyzing them.

Is it okay if a girl loves horror stories?

Jul-23-2010

I love Horror Stories but does it turn a guy off if they know that i still believe in supernaturals???

Think about it this way.

Traditionally guys don’t do all the home cooking… traditionally.
Would it turn you off if your guy made you a lovely dinner?

A dude would probably love it if you sat and watched some scary movies with him!

I’m sure you can find a dude who believes in all the supernatural things you do. Then you two can make conspiracies together. ;)

What is a key element or ingrediant for horror short stories.?

Jul-19-2010

I like to write, and I’ve set my sights on the horror genre. What do I need to put in my stories in order to make them scary.

What scares you? The dark? The unknown? The threat of pain or death? The terror that cannot be reasoned with? Insanity? The change in yourself that becomes something to fear?
Something loved and familiar that suddenly becomes alien? The clown at midnight?

Write about what scares you. The how and why it scares. Create a situation where your characters must confront and defeat, or are defeated by that thing which scares.

Use your writing to describe the setting, the circumstances and events of that confrontation in a way that will allow your readers to experience that fear, that suspense, that growing unease and eventual terror as they read.

Don’t rely on stereotyped characters or monsters. Make them unique, surprising, living on the page and in the imagination.

Have fun. (heh-heh-heh)

Swans Japanese Horror Reviews 37: Tales of Terror From Tokyo

Jul-16-2010

Tales of Terror From Tokyo and All Over Japan: Volume 1

Directors: Takashi Shimizu (grudge, marebito, reincarnation)
Norio Tsuruta (premonition, ring 0)
Year of Release: 2003
Stars: Mei Kurokawa
Run Time: 75 minutes
DVD Studio: Tokyo Shock
Score:6/10

Review of the 2003 collection of short five minute Horror Stories from a variety of directors. These stories tend to focus on the traditional Japanese ghost elements as made popular in Ringu and Ju-on, so fans of those films might find these worth checking out. Some stories are also funny, and some are just strange. Overall, an interesting experiment in what makes a scary story effective or not.

Theatre horror stories–what is the worst experience you’ve ever had working on a show?

Jul-15-2010

I’m in the middle of a horror story right now, after seeing that all of my props work had been undone by someone else, who replaced them all with anachronistic props. I just want to know who else has had really bad experiences on shows, and what happened!

*In a murder mystery play I was in, the lights never went out for the first and most dramatic murder… the rest of the play hinges on the speculation of who killed the first person in the dark.

*During a rehearsal and actor fell of the stage into the orchestra pit way below. It was a serious accident… bad concussion, broken bones, and had to have his spleen removed.

*One actor was very sick during a performance and left the stage to throw up in the wings… in the second act, someone had to go on with the script for him.

*Another sad one… during the rehearsal period, one actor had a stroke… he was okay, but not well enough to continue with the show.

*Kids in the audience trying to trip the actors as they made crosses through the audience

*An actor breaking a tray of glasses in the middle of a performance on stage… which had to be cleaned up since the show had several fights following the scene

*One show I was in had scene changes that took longer than the scenes themselves. The show itself got good reviews, but everyone complained about the long and pointless scene changes.

*I had a director write me really inappropriate and sexually suggestive notes… and asked me if I believed in open relationships, since he knew I was involved with someone. Besides being 20 years his junior. Ick!

*During a big battle in the Scottish Play… they had stobe lights going off and one of them temporarily blinded and disoriented one of the combatants (Banquo), but everyone was good and trained so the person he was fighting just swung his mace around a bit until Banquo was ready again.

*An audience member at a children’s theatre production letting their child jingle keys and then throw them onto the stage, getting the keys again and handing them back to their child to do it all over again.

*Friar Tuck always coming to performances hung over & not listening to the fight director on how to fall and throwing himself into the stage instead and finally breaking his wrist

Howard Stern Show (10-19-2009)Howard highschool horror stories PART2.wmv

Jul-13-2010

Howard Stern went Roosevelt High School in New York. Most of the white people in his neighbourhood moved out but his family stayed when the neighborhood demographics changed. It is always funny(for use not for him, lol) when he describes how it was to be Jewish and go to middle school and hischool in a majority black neighbourhood and how he was constantly picked on.

In this clip he talks about how he was asked during class by a classmate to give him his pants, haha. This is part 2.
